I almost thought this guy was a chickadee at first, until I took a closer look. He came and went really quick and the suet feeder he was on kept spinning in the wrong direction. Spotted 1/24/2012 at 3:30 pm.

Townsend's Warbler
It's been several days since I've spotted anything new at my feeders, and I was more then excited today to see not one, but two new species! I will post the first today, the Townsend's Warbler. A beautiful bird with a bright yellow head and a black raccoon like patch over it's eyes. This bird is native to the Pacific NW where I live, ranging all the way north to Alaska in the summer, and wintering here on the Pacific coast in the winter. The first picture is a male, while the second two pictures at the suet feeder are a female. Spotted 1/24/2013 at 3:30 pm.

Eastern Grey Squirrel
Perhaps somewhat common, but I thought, "why not?", they are pretty cute. Plus they haven't bothered my bird feeders since I started leaving peanuts for them on the ground. Now if I could only be rid of the starlings... Spotted 01/15/2013 9:11 AM.

Chestnut-Backed Chickadee
These little guys have been visiting the feeder regularly now in a flock of about 8-10. This one here has a lot more of the chestnut color then the one I previously photographed.

Black-capped Chickadee vs. Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Chestnut-backed Chickadee
Finally got some good pictures of the Chestnut-backed Chickadee! I had seen one visit the yard every once in a while, but today I got lucky and have five visit all at once. 01/13/2013 at 12:34 PM.

Varied Thrush
I was super excited today to see this new bird in my backyard! After looking it up, I understand that it is a Varied Thrush, and usually lives in dense forest habitat, preferring to stick to the shadows and hide. I guess this one felt like getting out a bit today.

Western Scrub Jay
Yesterday I buried two plant pots in the ground, put stones in the bottom for drainage, and filled one with peanuts and the other with dried meal worms. I thought for sure the Blue Jays would go for the meal worms, but instead they took all the peanuts in about 2 hours. I suppose they were hiding them somewhere because they kept coming back every couple of minutes to take another one.

American Bushtit 01/11/2013
These little guys seem to be showing up more and more... I actually got a picture of one of them sitting still this time, which was difficult because they are so quick. I love the way these guys will swoop town from the top of the tree 20+ feet away and land directly on the suet feeder. Spotted 1/11/2013 at 3:53 PM.
Evening Grosbeak
This guy briefly landed in a tree by our house and quickly flew away again, so the pictures are terrible. Hopefully I will get a chance to take some more pictures of this cool looking bird in the near future.
